UBER UPDATE

Californians love uberX and we know you love driving them, so here are the latest critical updates on how to keep riding and driving strong in the Golden State:

UBER UPDATE

— UBER U DELIVERY —

Uber U’s are a great way to make it easy for riders to find you and are required by the State of California for all uberX  and uberXL ridesharing partners. The California Public Utilities Commission has indicated that they will fine drivers $1,000 if they fail to comply.  If you receive a ticket for failure to comply, payment of the fine will be YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.  Avoid a ticket by downloading the Uber U here, printing it, and displaying it in your windshield.

— WHAT ABOUT THE GLOWING U? —

Some of you may have previously received the blue glowing Uber U trade dress. Please discontinue using these as you may be ticketed for displaying a blue forward-facing light. Please instead print the Uber U trade dress which can be found here.  This should be displayed on the passenger side of your dashboard and be visible through your windshield.

— UBER QUALITY ASSURANCE —

Uber’s number one priority is safety. We have rigorous background checks, vehicle inspections, and insurance requirements designed to maintain these standards for the benefit of both our driver partners and riders.

It is your responsibility to maintain your documents and ensure that they are up-to-date and accurate. Outdated or incomplete documents will result in the wait-listing of a driver partner. Inaccurate or fraudulent documents will result in the immediate deactivation of a driver partner.

We take any violations of our safety policies seriously and will immediately deactivate any driver partner who violates these policies.

To ensure that riders continue to enjoy the best experience possible, members of the Uber Quality Assurance Team will be increasing engagement with drivers on the road to review:

  • Vehicle condition: All vehicles on the Uber platform must be in excellent condition inside and out and must not be damaged.

  • Account sharing:  Phone or driver account sharing is explicitly prohibited by Uber’s terms and conditions – it’s also illegal.  If a driver partner or company partner is found to have engaged in that kind of fraud, they will be immediately and permanently deactivated from the platform and reported to the authorities.

  • Account misrepresentation: Documents presented to the Uber team to gain access to the Uber platform must be valid and authentic.  Forging or modifying insurance or government documents is a felony. If a driver partner or company partner is found to have engaged in that kind of fraud, the partner and fleet will be immediately and permanently deactivated from the platform and may be reported to the authorities.

  • License plate and photo consistency:  Driver partner photo and license plate number must always match the information provided to riders through the platform.

Please have your driver’s license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration available in your vehicle at all times, as required by law in the State of California.

— EXPAND YOUR UBERx FAMILY —

Did you know that spouses or family members can drive your uberX vehicle and increase your family business earning potential?  It’s easy to get them out on the road, just follow a few simple steps:

  • Create new partner account (no account sharing) at https://www.uber.com/drivers
  • The new partner must pass Uber’s industry leading background check and screening
  • Ensure that the new partner is listed on your vehicle insurance policy
  • When the vehicle is added to a new partner’s account, license plate must be slightly modified to be added to our system (i.e. if originally entered as ABC123, the plate for partner #2 MUST be abc123)
  • That’s it!

— CPUC VEHICLE INSPECTIONS —
The California Public Utilities Commission requires a 19-point vehicle inspection of all rideshare (non-livery or TCP) vehicles. The inspection must be done at a facility licensed by the California Bureau of Automotive Repair who must maintain complete documentation of such inspections. These inspections are needed annually, and expire one year after completing your vehicle inspection.

We have set-up deals with local mechanics to perform the inspection for $20 or less:

Note, you can have the inspections done at any BAR-licensed facility.  We have set-up the relationships with these mechanics as a courtesy.

Once your inspection is complete, you will need to upload two documents:
  1. The 19 point inspection form: http://t.uber.com/19pointuberxform (please bring this form with you to the inspection)
  2. Your receipt from the shop at which you complete your inspection to your dashboard

You can also email these two documents to driverdocs@uber.com

We are committed to delivering a quality, reliable, and safe experience for driver partners and riders. Thank you to our partners who continue to deliver the exceptional service that Uber is known for in California.

Thanks!
